FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
-
Do I need to have my eyelashes tinted/lifted before my cosmetic brow or eyeliner tattoo appointment? It is preferable that you leave the lashes alone as much as possible, for as long as possible before your cosmetic eyeliner tattoo. This will mean that Kristen can see natural hair growth and how to best blend the tattoo with the existing hairs. Tinting (if necessary) can be done after your tattoo has healed. If you see us regularly, please feel free to have your lashes tinted anytime before your appointment at least 24 hours prior.
-
How is my eyeliner shape chosen? When filling out your consultation card, you will write thorough notes as to what shape you do and do not have in mind. Kristen will always guide you as to what is best for you and together you will confirm your new shape which is tailored to suit your desires, face and bone structure measurements.
-
Will I get to see the shape and color of my new cosmetic eyeliner tattoo before tattooing commences?YES!!! No designer cosmetic tattoo will commence until Kristen and (especially) you are both happy with the proposed shape and color. Please note, Kristen is extremely fussy with shape and symmetry so this process may take a while! (If you are having a basic/classic shape that conforms to your eye shape, we don't pre draw.)
-
Will my lash hairs be tweezed/shaved off during the treatment? (This is the number one questions that husbands ask about the procedure!)No, phew! Unlike a body tattoo, the idea is to work with the natural hair growth so that the result is as natural looking as possible. The hairs help the area to look more real.
-
Can I have lash extensions? No, lash extensions must be removed at least 24 hours prior to appointment. Kristen can do this for you. Lashes must be removed due to the wiping motion of the ink with cotton pad, if lashes are left on they could be pulled out and this will be painful and damage natural lashes. If you get your lashes done by Kristen prior to getting eyeliner, a discounted rate will be given to have the full set put back on. Lashes can be put back on 3 weeks after touch-up. Brand new (first use after eyeliner tattoo, to prevent infection) mascara can be used after 5 days.
-
Will my brow hairs be shaved off during the treatment? (This is the number one question that men ask about the procedute!)No, phew! Unlike a body tattoo, the idea is to work with the natural hair growth so that the result is as natural looking as possible. The hairs help the area to look more real and less like an artificial brow. In some countries, shaving the eyebrows off does happen but not at My Cosmetique Beauty Pro. The excess stray hairs outside the brow shape are removed with a Brow razor.
-
Do I need to have my eyebrows tidied up before my cosmetic brow tattoo appointment? It is preferable if you let your brows grow out as much as possible, for as long as possible before your cosmetic brow tattoo. This will mean that Kristen can see natural hair growth and how to best blend the tattoo with the existing hairs. Tidying will be done during your tattoo appointment. On the other hand, if you love the shape that you currently have, you are more than welcome to come in with your Brows shaped and ready. If you choose this option, please ensure you have at least a 24 hour window of downtime between your shaping appointment and your tattoo appointment.

Kristen will always guide you as to what is best for you and together you will confirm your new shape which is tailored to suit your desires, face and bone structure measurements.
-
If I have a cosmetic brow tattoo, will I still need to tint and wax them?"Yes. Cosmetic Tattoo colors the skin and does not alleviate the need to color the hairs and remove the excess hair growth/stray hairs. Monthly maintenance appointments are recommended. Clients who continue to have regular eyebrow maintenance sessions are often happier with their brows for longer.

-
Can henna eyebrow tint be used after my cosmetic tattoo?Henna is not recommended once the brows have been tattooed as the skin takes on a new texture and doesn't seem to stain the skin as it may have previously. Also, henna has a high reaction rate once it builds up in your skin so the less exposure the better.
-
How soon after my appointments can I have my eyebrows tinted and waxed again? Please wait until healed (a minimum of 4 weeks) after your cosmetic brow tattoo to have your eyebrows tinted and waxed/threaded. Most clients return to their cosmetic tattooist for regular brow color and sculpting maintenance however if you have a local brow specialist who is more accessible, please let them know you have had cosmetic tattoo and the idea is to not wax over the tattooed areas as that is where hairs are wanted.
-
Will my lips swell from a cosmetic lip tattoo?Yes, probably a lot. You can take ibuprofen after treatment, and apply ice pack wrapped in paper towel to reduce swelling
-
Can a lip tattoo cause a cold sore/fever blister outbreak?Yes, therefore it is advisable to take over-the-counter 1000mg L-Lysine vitamins for 4 weeks prior to procedure and obtain an anti-viral prescription from your doctor for minimum 1000mg Valtrex or Acyclovir to be taken for 6 days total beginning the day before (24 hours) your procedure to prevent an outbreak. This does not guarantee an outbreak will not occur but can reduce the severity if one does. If outbreak occurs continue taking anti-viral medications, L-Lysine, and use topical Abreva to treat outbreak.
-
I have lip fillers. Can I get a Lip Blushing Service?Yes, as long as it has been 3 weeks since the last injection was done. And please wait at least 4 weeks after the touch up to have them filled.
-
Is there a limit on how often I will be able to have cosmetic tattoo treatments? There may become a time where the skin is too heavily saturated to accept any more pigment, or the skin has scar tissue present which rejects pigment. This is why it is extremely important to choose a FULLY qualified Cosmetic Tattooist who is familiar with removal and correction work. Once lifted or corrected, the skin may be worked upon again.
-
Are cosmetic tattoos permanent?Cosmetic tattooing is achieved by placing pigment into the top layer of skin, it will fade over time but there will always be some level of pigment remaining and visible. This is somewhat unpredictable and depends on many varying factors including client skin type/condition, client aftercare and tattooist skill, clients lifestyle, medications, and more.
-
Do cosmetic tattoos hurt?A tattoo procedure is causing an open wound to the skin therefore sensation can be felt. A numbing cream/liquid is used before and during treatment so pain is minimal if felt at all. Some clients describe it as pressure only, some clients feel the sharpness of the needles. Occasionally clients fall asleep during the procedure.
-
How can I reduce the sensation of cosmetic tattoos? We suggest you should: -avoid stimulants such as sugars and caffeines on the day in the lead up to your appointment -pain threshold is always at its highest first thing in the morning -avoid when possible having your appointment in the lead up to and during menstruation -educate yourself before the appointment so you are relaxed, a relaxed client always feels less -don't run late or arrive flustered, an organized calm client is always able to handle more sensation -practice deep breathing techniques -allow enough time for your appointment in your calendar to prevent feeling rushed -consult with your Doctor as to whether you are able to take pain killers beforehand (please note you are unable to take any blood thinning pain killers prior to your appointment e.g ibuprofen)
-
Is it normal to be nervous before my appointment?Absolutely, some clients attend their appointment highly nervous but also very excited. Try and ask yourself what is causing your nerves (the commitment, the unknown of the procedure, the "what if" it doesn't turn out how I want, the pain/sensation). Once you have identified the cause of your nerves, you can then research and get prepared, this is one of the best techniques to calm your nerves!
-
How long does it last? There is no exact answer. There are far too many varying factors to be able to pinpoint an exact timeframe (i.e. skin type, client aftercare, tattooist skill, activities including sweat/exercise/swimming, method of cosmetic tattoo used, pigment color chosen, quality of the brand of pigment line used). Aim to have annual refreshers between 12-18months.
-
Can I have cosmetic tattoo treatments during pregnancy?Unfortunately not, you will need to wait until your baby has arrived to have Cosmetic Tattoo treatments.
